Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 until Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is an unassuming community situated on the West Island, which is part of Montreal's island. People who aren't familiar with the name mistakenly believe that"the" West Island extends westward from Montreal. However this is not the case. West Island includes everything westward of Montreal, including the town of Lachine. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on West Island. But this is not the truth. Brugel grew in Courtice, just outside of Oshawa. Her first ambition was to become a performer, but she was able to outgrow her dancing partners. According to an article by Toronto Star, she revealed that in heels she was 6 foot 1 inch tall. After I reached the point of outgrowing male dance partners, I quit. Some former dancers switch to acting and in the case of Brugel it was a nudge from one of her drama teachers at the high school that pushed her to take the next step. It was her teacher who suggested she audition in the role of Anne in the school's annual production. After a few auditions the role, she was chosen as the leading lady for Anne of Green Gables. The Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she took classes in theatre and was awarded an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts in the year 2000. In the 20+ years since then, Brugel was offered roles in over 60 plays on both small and large screens attracting the most attention after she was offered the role of Rita on the award-winning TV series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian in the season 1 Cast of the show as well as appearing only on occasion, was the sole Canadian.
